You can specify which type of field is represented by any space that is drawn on the form. The type of field is recognised by the Digital Pen and automatically records the correct type of information that has been written on the form.
Field Types
- Comb Boxes, to capture short pieces of text with high accuracy
- Check Boxes/Radio Buttons, to select an option from a list of options
- Free Text, to capture large areas of handwritten text
- Image Only, to identify diagramatic and signature areas
- Label, to add additional printed text
Field Options
Fields have a number of options associated with them which allow you to configure your data capture areas for even greater accuracy.

Meaning
Name
A unique name for the field.
Chars
Comb boxes only. The number of characters in the field.
Show Artwork?
If the PDF file does not contain outlines for your data capture field then OpenForms can draw them for you.
Guide Text
Comb boxes only. Prints the specified text as a watermark in the field (e.g. NUMBERS ONLY).

Characters
Select which character sets are required for your field. You can use the Other area to specify additional characters individually.

Lexicons
Allows you to add additional lexical resources to improve recognition accuracy.
